Learn how to prepare Spam so that even the kids will beg for more!
If you are like me, the idea of eating Spam is just not appealing. I’ve made it 33 years without it, why start now? Well, I’ve actually learned it is a great option on the Keto diet and there are some yummy ways to prepare it so that you may actually enjoy eating it! Meet Spam Fries. Sounds weird, huh? I thought so too, and so did my kids. But, after taking the plunge, surprisingly, we all found that we actually liked eating it. My favorite part was the dipping sauce - a concoction of mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce and other delicious seasonings - yum!
So, put your hesitation aside and give it a try. My kids said it tasted like bacon. It is pretty salty but the dipping sauce gives it balance and makes for an enjoyable, delicious meal on the Keto diet. Get ready!
Surprisingly enough, I really enjoyed this meal. I was completely skeptical and pretty sure I wouldn't like it.
1 garlic clove
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 pinch of salt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons Sriracha sauce
Oil for frying
1 12-ounce can Spam
Heat oil to 350F using a deep saucepan or deep fryer. An air fryer can also be used.
Combine one clove of garlic (or more, depending on your fondness of garlic), a half teaspoon paprika and a pinch of salt in a food processor (I used my Ninja). Combine until smooth. Add 2 teaspoons of Sriracha sauce and 1/2 cup mayo. Process until fully mixed. Transfer to a bowl, wrap and chill until ready for dipping.
Cut Spam into fry-sized slices then rinse with cool water and pat dry.
Cook Spam slices in oil until browned, or about 4-6 minutes. The fries will be moist on the inside but crispy on the outside.
Cool slightly and serve with that yummy, chilled dipping sauce.
